On 25 April, Biz Club members convened at the Falcon Hotel for our annual St. George’s Day luncheon, made particularly memorable by our guest speaker, Paul Hartshorn. A seasoned IT consultant, councillor, and community advocate, Paul delivered an engaging presentation that left a lasting impression on all present.

He opened with reflections on his early career—beginning in the Thatcher-era Youth Training Scheme—and traced two decades of guiding organisations through digital transformation. His anecdotes illustrated both the breakneck pace of technological change and the necessity of agile leadership. Drawing on his experience as a Liberal Democrat councillor for Blaby, Paul offered candid insights into how public–private collaboration can drive innovation to the benefit of businesses and communities alike.

What truly captivated the audience was Paul’s gift for storytelling. He wove together personal recollections—from his first role in the YTS scheme to his current political ambitions—into a compelling narrative that highlighted the human side of technology. His warmth and humour fostered a spirit of camaraderie, sparking lively discussion during the Q&A session that followed.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising Paul’s talent for making complex ideas both accessible and inspiring. His talk reminded us that while technology catalyses progress, it is ultimately people and partnerships that leave a lasting impact.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Paul Hartshorn for sharing his expertise, enthusiasm, and candid insights. His contribution transformed our St. George’s Day luncheon into a true celebration of community, innovation, and collaboration.
